Unexpected honor for one of our past projects. BRAUN publishers have chosen the Hotel Drei Raben Lounge as “one of the best bars from all over the world” for the recently published book “DRINK! Best of Bar Design”. The selection comprises 41 bars, only 4 of them from Germany. Proud that ours is one of these and presented on 4 double-pages.

Title:  “DRINK! Best of Bar Design” ISBN: 978-3-03768-015-5 / Publisher: BRAUN
400 pages / € 19.90

Preface: “The bar is the architectural embodiment of the night. Light, materials, forms and colors in the right mixture can become a kind of intoxicating cocktail in themselves. Drink! is an architectural excursion through the world’s most extraordinary bars.
Established architects and innovative young designers have created a unique atmosphere in each bar using off-beat, colorful interiors and minimalist, reduced design ideas. This volume presents contemporary trends in bar design in all their creative variety.

For a 700 sqm private surgical hospital we developed the spatial concept. We are now in the phase of interior design. Twelve surgeries / 3 operating theatres / X-ray / waiting rooms / back office / reception. The building just started to grow and will be ready for completion late 2012. More to come soon. We are designing a second doctor´s practice for two Oncologists with the same time-schedule in the same building. Check out posts “Praxis Drs. W-B”

Why Corporate Identity?

Some thoughts about how to take a stand.

Just like individuals, every organisation, company or brand has its own identity. A distinct identity differentiates an organisation from its competitors. It allows customers, suppliers and staff to recognise, understand and clearly describe the organisation concerned. The identity of any organisation is complex. It includes the effectiveness of its services or products, the shared values and ambitions of its employees, the corporate tone of voice and PR profile. Naturally, its visual appearance (or visual identity) plays the key role.

Visual identity manifests itself in many ways. In addition to its logo, typeface and colours, the following all contribute to the impression created by the identity: stationery, marketing literature, buildings, interior design, signage, product design, customer information, vehicles and every aspect of promotional activity from a high-profile advertising campaign to the design of a giveaway.

The detailed management of a visual identity is equally important as the management of other business assets such as finance or human resources. Without a well thought out visual identity guideline, an organisation’s brand perception will be at best diluted, and at worse appear chaotic and unprofessional.

When all of the visual elements of an organisation work together in unity, the investment in its identity is protected and the overall image becomes one of quality and strength.

Science Village, Timmins – Interior Design Development, 1st step: Definition of general approach

Currently we are working on the design development of a Science Center in a heritage building downtown Timmins, Canada. The challenge: Create a variety of useable spaces for programs that create visual interest and pique curiosity. Recommend a layout which facilitates ease of operation and building functionality.

The proposal is based on the use of a track system to create up to five distinct activity zones for main floor of facility. Using a ceiling mounted track system – partitions can be freely moved and rearranged to create distinct zones.

Advantages: • Curtains can be configured to create zones in different locations and zones of different sizes. Two track system allows overlay of different materials • Temperature control of main entrance can be achieved. • Creates visual interest and makes the space feel larger by making parts of the facility visible and hiding other areas • Can be used as signage system to label workshops and activities • Provides acoustic and visual barriers enabling several programs to be running at one time. • The partitions can be composed of a variety of materials and can be sued for a number of purposes.

Lynches River County Park Environmental Discovery Center is nestled along the cypress and water tupelo along the scenic Lynches River. It features a canopy walk suspended over the wetlands approaching the river. The 250-squared-meter (2700-sq.-ft.) EDC houses a Nature Lab, Veranda Observatory and Briefing Room. Each is equipped with tools and equipment to facilitate citizen science: the ongoing monitoring of the park ecosystems and environment. EDC Coordinator Teresa Simons commented that “visitors will observe, measure and experience nature for themselves.” The center’s Briefing Room has real time environmental monitoring of soil, air, and water and weather conditions.

The 328-ft. canopy walk is a combination of ground-supported walkway, tree-supported observation platforms and cable-supported bridges, starting from the platform of EDC Veranda Observatory.

Lake City native, national business leader and philanthropist Darla Moore said: “Today, we celebrate the opening of this incredible environmental discovery center right in the middle of our own rural Pee Dee region.” Moore congratulated the EDC Steering Committee for the realization of their vision and commented on the importance of public and private partnerships to enact economic change in the region. She also complimented the architecture and design of the center which re-used siding and flooring from a soon to be destroyed century old tobacco barn.

Lynches “EDC” soon to be open

Im Rohbau: Die nach unseren Spezifikationen geplante Innenraumstruktur des neuen Centers. Umgesetzt vor Ort von einem lokalen Planungsbüro, das die Ausführung, Konstuktion und Bauüberwachung übernommen hat.

Visitors to Lynches River County Park will soon enjoy stimulating “hands-in” experiences, at the Environmental Discovery Center which is now set to open in early 2008.

Lynches River Park offers people the unique opportunity for meaningful discovery in their own backyard. Visitors to Lynches River will enjoy stimulating “hands-in” experiences, which will set apart from more common park experiences. They will explore nature where it is, rather than read about models and artifacts from nature. They will use tools to explore actual natural artifacts and processes closely and intimately where they occur. Intimate and up-close encounters with nature will inspire visitors of all ages to act as scientists: to observe, to explore, to record, to compare, to appreciate and most importantly to carry their excitement and new knowledge into their everyday lives. And it is the unique nature of these experiences that will put Lynches River Park “on the map!”
